A pair of former LSU Tigers are helping bring a Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar franchise to Shreveport.
Jacob Hester, a Shreveport native and football standout for the Tigers from 2004 through 2007, and Todd Walker, a Bossier City native and star Tiger baseball player from 1992 to 1994, are partnering with Shreveport native Chris McJunkins on the restaurant.
“I was first introduced to Walk-On’s in the summer of 2013 when my son’s baseball team played in a tournament in Baton Rouge,” McJunkins, who has 34 years of restaurant experience, tells RestaurantNews.com. “Some of us dads went over and enjoyed the bar on the first night. Then we took the entire team, along with the parents, over for lunch the next day. You know you’ve got a winning concept when it’s just as appealing for a group of guys as it is for families with kids.”
The Shreveport franchise is the third inked since the Baton Rouge-based restaurant and bar chain began a regional franchising push last fall. Last month, Walk-On’s announced that New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife, Brittany, had become minority owners in the company.
“It’s been a very exciting year for all of us, and we’re really pleased to be moving into Shreveport with Chris and his team,” says Brandon Landry, co-founder of Walk-On’s Enterprises.
The Shreveport Walk-On’s will be located at 7031 Youree Drive. It will cover roughly 8,000 square feet, with seating for 260 guests. McJunkins anticipates opening in mid-September and, in the process, bringing roughly 120 new jobs to the city.
Landry recently told Daily Report an announcement about the first Walk-On’s franchise outside of Louisiana should be coming in weeks. The franchise will be located in Lubbock, Texas.
Walk-On’s has four company-owned restaurants in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette, and three more under construction in Houma, Zachary and Denham Springs. This fall, Walk-On’s first franchise outlet will open in Lake Charles.
