Lawmakers in the Louisiana House are entering the second day of debate on how to redesign their 105 districts. Disputes over minority representation and incumbent protection are taking a more partisan tone as the remapping continues. Redistricting work slowed to a crawl Monday, but the House hopes to wrap up its redesigned map today. Meanwhile, the Senate starts floor debate on the reshaping of its 39 districts. Two term-limited lawmakers are trying to keep their districts from being divvied up to boost the Senate’s minority seats from 10 to 11. The work accounts for population shifts over the past decade. The Legislature is in the midst of a three-week special session to redraw its districts and those for the congressional delegation, Public Service Commission and state education board.
