East Baton Rouge Parish sales tax collections are up 2.6% for the first quarter, when compared to the year before. Nearly $36.3 million was collected through March, compared with nearly $35.4 million through March 2010, according to figures released today by the city-parish Finance Department. Those figures do not include vehicle sales taxes. The increase was almost entirely driven by sales inside the city limits. Tax collections inside the incorporated areas of the parish were up by 4.3%, to $20 million. Collections from sales in the unincorporated areas were up 0.6% through the first quarter, to nearly $16.3 million.
