About 150 people are expected to attend a Saturday morning auction for a nearly 700-acre estate in Jackson. Owner David Gaines has put his home on La. 68, the surrounding property and some furnishing and equipments up for sale. Barbara Bonnette of Bonnette Auctions, which is handing the sale along with Lippard Auctioneers, Hubbard Properties and Cabela’s Trophy Properties, says the auction is being held after a couple of years of trying to sell the land and the 13,000-square-foot home. “The owner thinks you have to bring these kind of things to the people,” Bonnette says. “He wants to get the highest bidder to step up to the plate.”

Bonnette says a Web site to promote the auction has drawn more than 7,000 hits from people living in New York and Texas. The property is the “whole package” with two stocked fishing ponds and hunting areas that have yielded trophy deer and wild turkeys. “You don’t find these kinds of properties,” she says. Bonnette plans to auction the 150-acre home site separately from other small properties and an adjoining 530 acres, but the winning bidders will have an opportunity to combine the sites in order to get the highest possible price.
