The 39th annual Kenilworth Independence Day Parade rolls at 6 p.m. Sunday with the patriotic theme “Home of the Free—Because of the Brave,” with Grand Marshal Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, a 37-year veteran of the armed services. Enjoy a traveling show of local civic groups, marching bands, military groups, clowns and more. The parade begins and ends at Kenilworth Science and Technology Charter School on Boone Avenue. Monday, Baton Rouge’s annual free Fourth of July celebration kicks off at noon with live music, food and drink booths and more. Celebrate your independence from boredom with this family-friendly event along the riverfront. Then finish off the evening with a spectacular fireworks display above the Mississippi River after the sun goes down. For something a little more upscale, enjoy a private celebration of the annual downtown fireworks display at the Shaw Center’s Fourth on the 4th party. With drinks, music and food on the fourth-floor terrace of the Shaw Center, you’ll have an unparalleled view of the show.
