Baton Rouge parents leaned toward traditional names in 2017, with Owen and Olivia being the most popular boy and girl names for babies born at Baton Rouge General’s Birth Center, the hospital announced today.
William and Emma were the most popular names in 2016. Despite the lean toward traditional names this year, many parents gave their babies similar names with unique spellings.
“Only 30 percent of babies born at Baton Rouge General’s Birth Center in the last year share a name and spelling with another BRG newborn,” the hospital says. “That’s because even names that sound alike are often spelled many different ways. For example, the second most popular girl’s name of the year came in five different variations: Kayleigh, Kai’Leigh, Kay’lee, Kailey, and Cay’Lee.”
Rounding out the top five most popular boy names: Kayden, Aiden, Oliver and Jaxson. And rounding out the top five most popular girl names: Kayleigh, Payton, Khloe, and Riley.
