In an effort to promote a new funding model, the group 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge plans to take the needs and challenges of Baton Rouge’s most desperate communities into the boardrooms of corporations across the city, beginning next week. The group will share the stories of teenagers lost in fatherless homes, broken schools and crime-ridden neighborhoods, as well as the statistics on mentorship and the effects of one-on-one relationships. For nine weeks, members of the group will share who they are, what the organization is and how the community benefits from their work. The meetings will assist in implementing the organization’s new funding model, 100 for the 100 Network. The group is asking area corporations to join the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Cox Communications and the Irene W. & C.B. Pennington Foundation in partnering with it to support its ACT Prep, Anti-violence, Project Excel mentoring, and financial literacy programs. Corporations, foundations, and philanthropists are being asked to commit $10,000 for three years to leverage and synergize their collective work in the community. The nonprofit 100 Black Men is aims to fund such programs for three years by raising $3 million during the campaign. Learn more about the group and its initiatives by visiting its website here.
