Today-Wednesday -- The first Louisiana Governor's Safety & Health Conference will be held at the Baton Rouge River Center. The event will provide information about the latest tools for advancing workplace safety, security and emergency preparedness. For more details, click here.

Tuesday -- The Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana will hold its annual Douglas Manship Sr. Torch Award for Ethics in Business Banquet at 7 p.m. at Crowne Plaza. The banquet will honor the four local companies that won the award for ethics in business: Capital One Bank, Wright & Percy Insurance, Business Report and Ashco Exteriors Inc. Wednesday-Thursday -- Energy Summit 2009 and the Supply Chain Management Symposium will take place at the LSU Energy, Coast & Environment Building. Wednesday -- The East Baton Rouge Parish Library will sponsor a seminar on careers and job opportunities with federal government agencies in South Louisiana at 11:30 a.m. at the Bluebonnet Regional Library. Bill Tyler, an administrative officer with the Southern Regional Research Center in New Orleans, will discuss application procedures, benefits and job outlook. Thursday -- A discussion on investing for smart growth will be held at 6 p.m. at the Manship Theater in the Shaw Center for the Arts. David Wood, director of the Institute for Responsible Investment at the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship, will be the guest speaker. Nov. 2 -- A presentation on Mayor Kip Holden's $901 million bond issue will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Enoteca Marcello's wine bar and bistro. Mike Futrell, Holden's chief administrative officer, will be on hand.

Nov. 4 -- The third annual "Growing Your Business in the New Ascension" for small to mid-size business owners and business leaders will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Elegant Affairs in Gonzales. Marilyn Moats-Kennedy, the event's featured speaker, will address the issue of "Managing Change: Understanding the Demographics of the Evolving Workplace." Other speakers include Adam Knapp, CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, and Kerry Sauley, an instructor with LSU Continuing Education and Rucks Department of Management. Nov. 5 -- The town of Walker will hold a meet at greet business event on "Connecting in the New Economy" at 6 p.m. in Revival Temple on Walker South Road. Featured speakers include Robbie Vitrano, founder & CEO of the Trumpet Group, and Jared Loftus, founder & CEO of the Tiger District.

Nov. 13 -- Paul J. Sarvadi, chairman of the board, chief executive officer and co-founder of Administaff, will be the guest speaker in the LSU Flores MBA Distinguished Speaker Series. Sarvadi will speak from 10 a.m. to noon at LSU’s Energy, Coast & Environment Building.
