FedEx Kinko’s opened its new location at 3151 College Dr., Ste. A on Nov. 5. The new center features a smaller design format to emphasize office products and other services designed to meet the needs of small business owners and mobile professionals. The center is part of FedEx Kinko’s international expansion of 320 new centers by the end of May 2008.

Granted for work

The Louisiana Department of Labor will receive a federal grant of $10.5 million to further cleanup and recovery efforts in areas of the state impacted by Hurricane Katrina and provide job training assistance to areas impacted by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The grant is provided under the National Emergency Grant program at the U.S. Department of Labor.

A clean start

The construction contract for a new Kean’s the Cleaner building near the corner of Perkins Road and College Drive was awarded to Construction Management, a division of Labarre Associates. The project has been in the works for almost two years.

Condos score

Tiger Manor Condominiums on July Street signed a two-year commitment to support LSU Athletics. The company has category exclusive use of the Tiger Partner mark and the designation as “The Official Condominium of LSU Athletics.” As part of the sponsorship agreement, the company will also receive premium signage in Tiger Stadium, Alex Box Stadium and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, public address announcements, game program and sports schedule card advertising and tickets and hospitality access.

William A. Oliver, president of AT&T Louisiana, presented a $25,000 check to Jim Brandt, president of the Public Affairs Research Council, to support PAR’s endowment fund campaign to establish a health care policy analyst position. The policy analyst will research Louisiana health care issues and propose alternative solutions to the challenges facing the state.

AWARDS/HONORS

Armstrong Relocation, an agent of United Van Lines, received the President’s Club Award from United President Richard H. McClure. The award honors agents who have generated at least $1 million in sales for the United system during the past year.

The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport received second place for their official Web site, flybtr.com, by the Airports Council International – North America in their Annual Excellence in Marketing and Communications contest. The competition encompassed 73 airports in categories ranging in all multimedia formats from brochures to video and film production.

The Police Jury Association elected Dr. Charles Nassauer of Washington Parish president for the upcoming year. Also elected were Vice President Bobby Cortez of Tangipahoa Parish, Secretary Sharon Lyons of Washington Parish and Region IV Executive Board Member Gordon Burgess.

Jim Purgerson, vice president of Citizens Bank and Trust, was awarded the Certified Commercial Investment Member by the CCIM Institute. The designation is given to experts in commercial real estate brokerage, lending, leasing, asset management, valuation and investment analysis. Purgerson earned the distinction by passing the institute’s comprehensive examination.

Louisiana Economic Development earned the Southern Economic Development Council’s award for Best in Class – Overall Marketing Campaign for the “Laissez le Business Rouler” campaign. The campaign competed against 12 other entries in the state division.

Kenneth R. Hogstrom, chief of physics at the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, has been awarded the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncoloy Fellow. Hogstrom is the director of LSU’s medical physics program and the Dr. Charles M. Smith chair of medical physics at LSU.

Harry J. “Skip” Philips Jr. of Taylor Porter became a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Fellowship is extended by invitation only to lawyers with a minimum of 15 years’ trial experience. Membership in the college cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state.

Lewis O. Unglesby, a partner at Unglesby & Marionneaux, was selected to serve on the faculty at the Fall Conference and Induction of Fellows for the Litigation Counsel of America in Scottsdale, Ariz. Membership into the society includes less than one half of one percent of American lawyers and is by invitation only.

Paul Amedee, environmental health and safety manager for Shaw’s Maintenance Group, was named 2007-2008 president of the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Society for Safety Engineers. The 250 members of the Baton Rouge chapter are safety leaders in local industries, small business and public sectors and provide safety recommendations to the public and legislative bodies.

Cox Communications received its fourth PC Magazine Readers’ Choice Award for its high speed Internet service. The award is based on an online survey that included responses from more than 800 Cox customers nationwide. The survey rated Internet service providers in each of ten categories, including speed, reliability, customer service and technical support.
