David Gordon, the long-time general manager and president of Baton Rouge’s NPR member station 89.3 WRKF-FM, is retiring, effective today.
The station announced Gordon’s retirement in a news release issued this afternoon.
“It’s been an honor and privilege to work with the members, staff and underwriters of WRKF who are committed to providing excellent information and entertainment,” Gordon said in an announcement to staff. “I am proud of the work we’ve done together over the last decade.”
Gordon became general manager of WRKF in 2006. During his tenure, he launched Capitol Access, daily coverage of Louisiana politics and government, started the station’s annual Founders Luncheon, and led it through its transition to an all news format on weekdays.
“David has served WRKF well during his tenure,” J. Cullens, vice chair of WRKF’s board of directors, said in a statement. “We hope that the next general manager will continue the progress made in serving our listeners and the Baton Rouge community well.”
Cyril Vetter, the former owner of WVLA-TV and a WRKF board member, will serve as the station’s interim president and general manager.
