National Public Radio affiliate 89.3 FM WRKF announced today it will host a forum featuring all four major candidates vying to be Louisiana’s next governor on Friday, Aug. 28, at the Old Governor’s Mansion in downtown Baton Rouge.
Republicans Scott Angelle, Jay Dardenne and David Vitter, as well as Democrat John Bel Edwards, are scheduled to take questions from audience members selected at random by Sue Lincoln, host of WRKF’s Capitol Access radio show, who will also moderate the forum.
“This forum serves as another example of how we invite listeners to discover with us,” says WRKF President and General Manager David Gordon in a prepared statement. “We want them to ask questions with us as we consider issues and policy in politics and government.”
Wine and light refreshments will be served at a reception beginning at 6 p.m. Admission to the forum, which will begin at 7 p.m., is $10 with proceeds benefitting WRKF. A limited number of reservations are available by contacting Latricia Huston at latricia@wrkf.org, (225) 926-3050, ext. 13.
All four major gubernatorial candidates will also appear in Baton Rouge on Saturday at a forum hosted by the Louisiana State Troopers Association. The forum, which will focus on public safety issues relating to the state police, will coincide with the LSTA 43rd Annual Convention being held at the Crowne Plaza hotel, 4728 Constitution Ave., beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
While Saturday’s forum was originally announced as being closed to the public, a spokeswoman for the LSTA has since informed Daily Report the public is invited to attend the forum at no charge.
Moderated by Retired Louisiana State Police Chief of Staff Lt. Col. Mark Oxley, the forum will provide candidates the opportunity to answer three questions related to State Police operations, as well as deliver opening and closing remarks.
