The lights have been out at Willy’s Chicken and Waffles on Nicholson Drive for a few weeks, but a new sign on the door Thursday confirmed the restaurant won’t be selling any more of it’s signature “Willy-wiches”—or anything else.

As workers loaded equipment into a red truck beside the restaurant at 3285 Nicholson Drive on Thursday afternoon, employees inside were also packing up items. A sign on the door read: “Closed for business.”

The sign replaced one on the door last week that said “closed for renovations,” and that sign had replaced one reading “closed for vacation.” On Thursday, the menu was also taken down from the drive-thru station.

Willy’s Chicken and Waffles was opened in early 2014 by former Raising Cane’s executive Greg Williams. The menu featured four combo meals, waffles and tater tots, as well as the “Willy-wich,” a waffle and chicken sandwich with syrup that proved popular among LSU students early on.

When it opened in the former location of Tigris Deli, Willy’s was the first restaurant in Baton Rouge to be solely dedicated to the popular pairing of fried chicken and waffles. At the time, Williams said he was inspired by the success of Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Los Angeles and Big Mama’s in Dallas. Multiple attempts to reach Williams for comment in recent weeks have been unsuccessful.
