Make no mistake about it: David Vitter has been to hell and back. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, but found himself three years later at the epicenter of a Beltway prostitution scandal that was so infamous it doesn’t require rehashing. He soon apologized for a “very serious sin” and went on to treat the scandal as a private matter by avoiding any further explanations and all serious interviews with the media. While Vitter’s power in the Senate may be limited, he’s increasingly turning his attention to state politics. This leaves many to wonder if Vitter is trying to build his political base for a gubernatorial run in 2015.
