Baton Rouge-based Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar is the new title sponsor of the Independence Bowl, a nationally-televised college football bowl game played each year in Shreveport.
Walk-On’s announced the deal with the Independence Bowl Foundation Wednesday afternoon. The deal is for five years, but Walk-On’s has an opt-out option after the conclusion of the third year.
The title sponsorship is significant for Walk-On’s because it increases the restaurant brand’s visibility on the national level. The bowl game, now in its 42nd year, is televised by ESPN, which has extended its partnership with the Independence Bowl Foundation through 2019.
Brandon Landry, Walk-On’s founder and CEO, says in a statement that “partnering with a Louisiana bowl game has always been a dream.”
Walk-On’s is the third Independence Bowl sponsor since 2014 and the fifth in 10 years. Past sponsors include Camping World, which opted to end the relationship last year half way through a four-year agreement, and Duck Dynasty’s Duck Commander.
The 2017 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl kicks off at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.
