The Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish on Sept. 3 is hosting a brunch to honor U.S. Sen. David Vitter with its first Man of the Year award. “We feel like he needed the recognition so he’s not so overlooked in Baton Rouge,” says Vice Chair Connie Bernard about Vitter. Bernard says the party hopes to make the award an annual event. When the local Republican Party chose Vitter for this year’s award, she says, there were no other candidates in mind. The 9:30 a.m. brunch will be at City Club. Sponsorships are $10,000 for a platinum table of eight, $5,000 for a gold table of eight, and $2,500 for a bronze table of eight. The money raised will be used to support Republican candidates for mayor and metro council seats. The City Club is opening on Labor Day for the event, which is slated to wrap up by 11:30 a.m. —Adam Pearson
