Now that Vision City Development Group is finishing up its redevelopment of the Kress at Third & Main and the Hotel Indigo, it is looking for its next downtown project. John Schneider, one of the principals of Vision City, says the group has contacted Capital One about the bank’s plans for its downtown offices. “We have expressed interest in rehabilitating the building,” Schneider says. Vision City is made up of principals from Cyntreniks, the group composed of Schneider, the late Brace Godfrey Jr., Brace Godfrey III and Derek Fitch. Schneider says Vision City is also looking at three other downtown redevelopment projects.
There has been speculation off and on for several years about the Capital One building. At one point it was rumored the Baton Rouge Area Foundation would move into the building and the Baton Rouge Area Chamber would then take over the BRAF offices. But in 2009 the foundation said there was no plan to do anything with its office in the coming years. BRAC has been looking into getting a new office for several years. Mike Odom, a chamber spokesman, says BRAC has been concentrating on the launch of its Creative Capital agenda. “That is leaving us little time to focus on new office space,” Odom said in a statement. —Timothy Boone
