It’s been 25 years since Mitch Verma founded his technology services company, Verma Systems, with a mere $500.
Since then, he has turned the one-man operation into one of Inc. magazine’s 5,000 fastest growing companies in America. “I prevailed with hard work, good customers, great employees and a lot of luck,” Verma tells Business Report in the latest Executive Spotlight feature from its new issue.
Verma Systems is a two-time honoree on the LSU 100 list of the fastest-growing Tiger businesses and a three-time honoree of Inc. magazine’s 5,000 fastest-growing businesses.
Verma is grateful for the honors, but he also has his eyes set on making Verma Systems the best and most well-respected IT services company in south Louisiana.
“I think hard work gets you far. I also think being nice to people and treating them well will, in the long run, help you prevail,” he says.
Working in a dynamic field like IT, Verma and his employees always have to keep pace with the latest technology, which can be particularly difficult when clients have a limited budget to upgrade their digital infrastructure.
But the key to success isn’t just the latest software or hardware, Verma says. It’s the talented people who make up his team. When asked about the one aspect people wouldn’t expect about his job, Verma’s answer is succinct: “That I work with such creative, interesting and diverse people.”
