Varsity Sports is planning to continue its expansion in the New Orleans area with the opening of a new store in Old Metairie early next year.
Varsity Sports owner Jenni Peters says the new store will be located on Metairie Road and will be something of a satellite location for Varsity Sport’s existing location on Magazine Street in Uptown New Orleans.
“It will be small—about 1,110 square feet—and will offer a convenient location for the New Orleans market,” Peters says. “There are people living on the outside of the New Orleans city limits that are really loyal to our store but may find it a challenge to shop Uptown, even though we love the Magazine Street vibe and the Uptown market.”
The new store, which should be open in January, will be the fourth location for Varsity Sports and the third in the greater New Orleans area. Besides the Uptown and planned Metairie location, Varsity Sports has a store in Mandeville. Its flagship location in Baton Rouge near the Perkins Road Overpass opened in 2000. In the years since, Peters has turned a $100,000 investment into a business with more than $4 million in revenues.
Peters says the new store in Metairie will likely not be Varsity’s last.
“We have some interesting opportunities in front of us right now,” she says.
