Contractors poured the slab today for a new 4,600-square-foot building at University Club that will house a 2,500-square-foot workout facility, locker rooms, tennis pro shop and concession stands. The construction is part of a $500,000 project at the golf club community off Nicholson Drive that also includes the construction of a second swimming pool and two additional tennis courts.
University Club residents voted by more than 70% last fall to develop the new facility. Golf, tennis and swimming have long been popular at UC, but the development has never had a workout facility, says developer Sinclair Kouns.
“I think that’s what residents are most excited about,” he says. “Also, adding two tennis courts to the existing four will enable us to now qualify for league play.”
The new swimming pool is scheduled to be complete in time for Memorial Day. The new building will be ready later this summer.
The first homes in University Club were developed in 1998. It currently has 650 single-family homes, with nearly 40 more under construction. Eventually, Kouns hopes to develop between 950 and 1,000 lots.
“All signs are very positive right now,” he says. “The market here is very strong and still very bullish on single family homes.”
