The University of Louisiana at Monroe and Pennington Biomedical Research Center are teaming up to explore geriatric and dementia research in an effort to provide a better quality of life for Louisiana’s elderly population, The News-Star reports. ULM faculty from multiple disciplines will work with Pennington faculty to expand existing research at both sites. This effort will involve studying the social, physiological, cellular, molecular and genetic causes and effects of dementia. Jeffrey Keller, director of the Institute for Dementia Research and Prevention at Pennington, says the agreement marks the first step of what will become a more extensive collaboration.
