The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors has approved a $762 million budget that represents a $38 million cut from last year’s sum. The nine-campus UL System is Louisiana’s biggest state-run network of higher education institutions. The budget for the fiscal year that started July 1 accounts for 38% of the budget, continuing a drop in revenue from the state—$295.4 million, compared with slightly more than $329 million last year. The proportion coming from self-generated funds, such as tuition and other fees, is $466.5 million, down nearly $5 million from last year. Even though UL System campuses have been allowed to raise tuition, system personnel said at a meeting Tuesday that the costs of employee benefits and retirement programs have also increased.
