NEW IBERIA (AP) — The director of University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s New Iberia Research Center says that several steps are being taken to address six concerns raised by federal inspectors.
Those concerns, outlined in a report issued on March 27, focus on how certain actions are documented and reviewed and how some primates are housed, sedated and transported.
Four inspectors visited the center on March 17, about two weeks after the Humane Society of the United States announced the results of its undercover investigation and released a video that it said showed physical and psychological abuse of animals.
NIRC Director Thomas Rowell said that while the center could dispute some of the findings, officials have no current plans to do so and are now reviewing their standard operating procedures and making necessary changes.
