Rethink Technology Research, a United Kingdom-based analyst group, has acquired The Online Reporter, a 20-year-old publication by Baton Rouge-based Rider Research, in an undisclosed deal.

According to a news release, Rethink will merge The Online Reporter—a weekly subscription-based executive briefing—into its own Faultline service.

The senior writers from both teams will be retained for the new title, and the combined product will be called “Faultline Online Reporter” to reflect both brands.

Rider Research publishes specialist bulletins, newsletters and reports about digital media, broadband and home networks. The company analyzes and predicts the technologies that are affecting and connecting the international entertainment, consumer electronics and telecoms industries.

Rider Research founder and CEO Charles Hall will continue to consult for the combined product, the news release says. New content will sit behind a paywall on the Rethink website.

“Both services have covered the digital media industries throughout their most revolutionary years, offering news, opinion and advice to the senior executives who have driven change through digital media and pay TV,” Rethink CEO Peter White says in a prepared statement. “Each have carved out strong reputations for being outspoken and seeing ahead of time many of the industry’s changes. We believe that together the merged brand will continue as the market leader in covering the technology behind pay TV, broadband, content and advertising.”

Faultline was launched in 2003 while The Online Reporter recently celebrated its 1,000th issue, according to the news release.

The more recently launched Internet and TV Reporter from Rider Research will also be merged into the same title, the release says.
