Two movies, Avalanche and 1973, will be in the works in Baton Rouge this summer, though it’s not yet certain how the city will benefit.
Avalanche is slated to begin preproduction, which typically lasts a few weeks, in Baton Rouge on July 1, and 1973, already in preproduction, will be filming in the city from June 15 to July 17, according to a Louisiana Entertainment news release.
While it’s unclear how many jobs the films will bring to the area, these two movies are still more than what the city saw last year.
Katie Patton Pryor, executive director for Film Baton Rouge, says the increase is because the state’s new tax incentives for productions went into effect last July.
“We never lost productions but these world-class incentives are bringing more projects to the state,” Patton says.
The number of jobs a production brings to the area and its economic impact is is dependent on the budget of the project. That won’t be known until after offices are set up and crews are hired in Baton Rouge.
