Yogis that live and work in the downtown area will now have the opportunity to do their sun salutations in a more convenient location, as a yoga studio has become the latest in a slew of businesses to locate in Beauregard Town.

One Heart Yoga Studio, which operated in the Perkins Road overpass area under different names for more than 20 years, moved to 340 St. Joseph St. last week, as its lease under the overpass became too expensive to afford, says co-owner Janene Grodesky.

But Grodesky, who co-owns the studio along with Terri Hunter, says the price-out has been a blessing in disguise, allowing the studio to expand its wellness offerings and operate in a more peaceful environment with far less vehicular traffic.

“It’s quite different from being under the overpass,” Grodesky says.

Students and clients often had a difficult time fighting for parking in the area, Grodesky says, but now the studio has its own dedicated lot. The studio is simply more peaceful than it was when it was located directly under Interstate 10, Grodesky says.

The new space is also larger. The previous studio was 2,400 square feet, Grodesky estimates, while the new space is located in a two-story, 3,100-square-foot office, with multiple rooms, including a kitchen, that will allow for more private tutelage and expanded massage therapy offerings.

“As you lose things, you gain others,” Grodesky says. “It’s nice that we were at the right time to open up this space.”

Grodesky says the studio will also look to expand its class offerings in the new year, but will maintain the schedule of the old studio for the time being.

“We want to make sure we’re not changing things too fast for our students,” Grodesky says.

The studio has a committed client base that has been supportive of the move, Grodesky says.
