Though prices at the pump continue to rise, a pair of Baton Rouge stations reportedly have the lowest gas prices in the state.
At $1.85 per gallon of regular unleaded, the local Costco and Sam’s Club have the lowest prices in Louisiana, The Advertiser reports. Costco is located at 10000 Dawnadele Ave., just off Airline Highway, and the Sam’s Club is at 9598 Cortana Place.
Gasoline pump prices continued their climb northward this week, with the average cost for a gallon of regular in Louisiana rising by 2 cents to $2.11. Prices in Louisiana are the fourth-lowest in the nation, trailing only Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Carolina, and those by mere pennies.
And gas still costs 35 cents less per gallon than a year ago in Louisiana, notes Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com, a consumer website. “It is one of the few states where you can still find gas for under $2 a gallon,” he says.
Laskoski links increasing pump prices to the increase in the cost of a barrel of oil, which hovered near $48 a barrel this morning. The rise in crude oil has sent the wholesale price of gas to $1.50 on the Gulf Coast; generally, Laskowski says, retailers add about 70 cents to the wholesale price to set the retail price.
“It’s not out of ordinary,” he says. “Prior to Labor Day, consumer demand picks up. The weather is nice, and people have summer plans.”
