Tropical Storm Arlene, the first named storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, is expected to reach the Mexican coast by Thursday, two days after it formed in the southwest Gulf of Mexico. At 8 a.m. today, the center of Arlene was located about 155 miles east-southeast of Tampico, Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph. Arlene is forecast to strengthen before making landfall and could approach hurricane strength. The Mexican government has issued a tropical storm warning from Barra de Nautla north to Bahia Algodones, and a hurricane warning from Tuxpan north to La Cruz.
