Just around the corner from the elite Country Club of Louisiana lies a road less than a mile long known as Highland Crossing Street. It lacks the exclusive, gated ambience of its neighboring subdivision, but homes along this stretch are in the million-dollar club, fetching anywhere between $1.5 million and $10 million. Residing here is an eclectic mix of businessmen, lawyers, physicians and surgeons, and two failed gubernatorial candidates. Among its more high-profile residents: Dr. Charles Williamson Sr. of Williamson Eye Center, former Shaw CEO Jim Bernhard, Performance Contractors President Art Favre, as well as former Congressman Cleo Fields and former state Sen. Walter Boasso, both of whom ran unsuccessfully at different times for governor. Readers should note that the assessed value represents the value on file with the Office of the Assessor for tax purposes, and not the actual appraised value of the home. Williamson’s Highland Road abode, for example, is currently on the market for $2.9 million, while listing agents estimate that in the unlikely event Bernhard’s sprawling property were ever on the market, the asking price might be somewhere around $10 million.
