Three researchers at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center are quoted in a new Time magazine cover story about why exercise doesn’t make people lose weight. Dr. Timothy Church, Hans-Rudolf Berthoud and Eric Ravussin are all mentioned in the article. Berthoud says frequent, low-level exercise, like walking and climbing stairs, is better than a vigorous workout at the gym. One of the problems is that people want to reward themselves with treats after a trip to the gym, Church says, or they move around less when they get home. “In general, for weight loss, exercise is pretty useless,” Ravussin says.
