Area Development magazine has ranked Louisiana sixth in the country on its 2011 list of “Top States for Doing Business,” which asks leading site-selection consultants to name the most attractive locations for business investment. Louisiana ranked third among states leading the economic recovery, fourth for states with the best workforce development programs and fourth for the best overall business environment. Louisiana did not break into the magazine’s top ten in any of those categories last year; instead, it was ranked fifth for cost of doing business and workforce development. In addition to its other top rankings for 2011, Louisiana tied Michigan for fifth-best in overall labor climate, and also fifth for labor costs. Within the overall business environment category, Louisiana tied for third with Indiana for business friendliness and received a stand-alone third for the overall cost of doing business.
