About two-thirds of Louisiana is under a tornado watch until noon today as strong storms that dumped up to 15 inches of rain over southwest Louisiana on Tuesday continue to push through the state today. The National Weather Service says the storms aren’t expected to bring nearly as much rain to Baton Rouge and New Orleans as they move through, but there’s still the possibility of flash flooding. A total of one to two inches of rainfall is expected in Baton Rouge. Possible tornadoes were reported in Lake Arthur, Gueydan and Abbeville between 5 and 6 this morning. Gueydan police say one house trailer was destroyed and others damaged but that nobody was hurt. The NWS in Lake Charles says crews will check whether the damage was from straight winds or twisters. Heavy rains also closed at least a dozen school systems today in west Louisiana and Cajun country, while high winds downed power lines and trees Tuesday from Union Parish in north-central Louisiana to Calcasieu Parish in the southwest.
