The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., has issued a tornado watch for parts of eastern Louisiana—including all parishes of the Capital Region—central Mississippi and extreme southeast Arkansas until 5 p.m. Tornadoes, hail to 2 1/2 inches in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph and dangerous lightning are possible in the watch area. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.

There is a moderate risk of severe weather for areas mainly along and northeast of a line from Liberty, Miss., to Slidell. A slight risk encompasses the rest of the state.
