Times-Picayune entertainment columnist Mike Scott recently took a look at Hollywood South films of 2011 and named his top 10 picks. Only those movies with significant local connections that played at least once in a local theater during 2011 were considered. The list is testament to the growing film production industry along the corridor. “To be honest,” Scott says, “there were a lot to choose from, as 2011 was a productive year for locally linked movies.” At the top of the list was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. While it wasn’t shot in south Louisiana, Lafayette’s Pixel Magic had a hand in the 3-D conversion of the film, along with a slew of University of Louisiana at Lafayette graduates and one current student. Rounding out the top three were Bury the Hatchet, Aaron Walker’s documentary on the Mardi Gras Indian culture; and Green Lantern, the New Orleans-shot superhero adventure.
