The owners of the Time Out Lounge, which was displaced after a fire gutted its Old Hammond Highway location in December 2013, have signed a long-term lease with the owner of the long-vacant Game Day Daiquiris building at 4619 Bennington Ave. and plan to reopen their lounge in the space after an extensive renovation.
Ned Fasullo—whose mother and stepfather, Kathleen and Jerome Byers, owned the Time Out Lounge—says plans call for a thorough overhaul of the building, which has been vacant for about three years. Fasullo says it’s too soon to project an opening date, but he adds the new Time Out Lounge will be different than the old one and will feature live music, including, from time to time, his popular namesake big band.
“There’s a lot of work to do,” he says. “It’s going to be a lot different—more upscale and more like a traditional lounge, as opposed to a sports bar.”
Last summer, the Byers tried to move the Time Out Lounge to a space at 3180 Valley St., just off Perkins Road behind the Bin Q liquor store. Southdowns residents opposed the move, however, saying they didn’t want more bars in the area, and both the Planning Commission and the Metro Council denied the Byers’ rezoning request.
The new location on Bennington is already zoned for a bar or restaurant. Grey Mullins handled the lease.
