LSU had the No. 1 recruiting class, according to two of four rankings released at the end of National Signing Day on Wednesday. ESPNU picked the Tigers ahead of Alabama, Texas, Southern California and Florida, and CBS College Sports/MaxPreps ranked them ahead of Ohio State, USC, Texas and Alabama. Rivals.com picked the Tigers second behind Alabama and ahead of USC, Ohio State and Texas, and Scout.com ranked them second behind Ohio State, but ahead of Alabama, North Carolina and UCLA. Here’s a sampling of what’s been said nationally about LSU’s recruiting class:
ESPN: “LSU went into signing day with the country’s top recruiting class and held onto it with a strong finish.” To see the ESPN rankings, click here.
CBS College Sports/MaxPreps: “LSU lost out on receiver DeAngelo Benton, who shocked everyone by going to Auburn. But the Tigers never flinched getting five of the top 33 recruits and eight in the top 100.” To see the CBS College Sports rankings, click here.
Rivals.com: “This is an unbelievable class with in-state stars such as Chris Davenport, running back Michael Ford, Barkevious Mingo and offensive lineman Chris Faulk, and out-of-staters such as Russell Shepard, linebacker Kevin Minter, athlete Drayton Calhoun and safety Craig Loston. The Tigers loaded up.” To see the Rivals.com rankings, click here.
Scout.com: “LSU enjoys one of the best location-based recruiting advantages in the entire country as the only BCS school in a talent-rich area. Les Miles and his Tigers stretched beyond Louisiana, though.” To read the Scout.com rankings, click here.
