The hype surrounding the big rematch between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama for the BCS National Championship in New Orleans on Jan. 9 is nothing compared to the ticket prices. As of this morning, the cheapest seat available from ticket resale website Stubhub.com is $1,364. Tickets range from there up to $4,495 for sideline seats. Stubhub.com has available roughly 1,800 tickets for the game. Similar resale sites are charging approximately the same range for BCS tickets. Fans desperate to see the game appear to have few options outside such websites. The LSU ticket office says it has received more than 60,000 ticket requests from LSU football season ticket holders but has just 17,000 to distribute. LSU is using its Priority Point ranking for season ticket holders to distribute the tickets, with notifications set to go out via email not later than Dec. 9. There are no tickets available for sale to non-season ticket holders through the LSU ticket office. According to the Allstate BCS Championship website, tickets to the game are sold out. There is no mention of a possible face value ticket sale to the general public at any point in the future. Earlier in the season, fans were able to reserve team tickets to the championship game for face value—which ranges from $300 to $350—from the website. Fans can now sell those reservations in a marketplace on the site, although the prices have skyrocketed to almost $1,000 a ticket.
