Jay Adelson, a successful entrepreneur from the Midwest who made a name for himself in California, has a few insights he wants to share with Baton Rouge. One of his key points: Achieving success takes more than knowledge and planning; it takes ambition and confidence. The self-described “old-school Internet entrepreneur” graduated from Boston University in 1992 with a degree in broadcasting and film. Adelson planned a career as an audio engineer, but instead founded several successful Internet startups, like Equinix, SimpleGEO and Revision3. He is perhaps most famous for launching Digg, the social content-sharing site that landed Adelson on Time magazine’s 2008 list of the world’s 100 most influential people. “The first advice I give any entrepreneur is: Do not be afraid to try, make a mistake or two, and then rehash and try again,” says Adelson, who’s serving as the keynote speaker of the Louisiana Technology and Innovation Breakfast on Wednesday, Oct. 10. The breakfast, to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, will kick off the Louisiana Business Symposium, which will also feature Business Report‘s Top 100 Luncheon. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for the breakfast, with the program to run from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Tickets are $20, and you can get yours here. Details and tickets for the Top 100 Luncheon—at which economist Loren Scott will unveil his annual economic forecast for Louisiana and its major cities—are available here.
