Barbara Thomas, who heads a nonprofit agency that helps pregnant women, says she plans to run for a north Baton Rouge House seat. Thomas says she will run for the District 63 seat as a Republican. The district, which covers Scotlandville and Baker, is currently represented by Rep. Dalton Honore, a Democrat who won a special election last year. Thomas and her husband, Charles R. Thomas II, founded North Baton Rouge Women’s Help Center in 1991. “While my work in the nonprofit sector has served my passion for empowering and strengthening families, I feel that now is the time to take my experience to the state Capitol to help create policies to ensure that Louisiana puts families first,” Thomas says. The House election is set for Oct. 22, and qualifying will begin Sept. 6.
