Thermaldyne says it will spend $19 million to build an industrial waste remediation plant at the recently announced, $80 million USA Rail Terminal industrial park near Port Allen. Construction of the facility, to be located over 25 acres in the park, is slated to begin in the third quarter and is expected to be complete sometime in the second quarter of 2016. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will create 45 direct jobs carrying an average annual salary of $70,000, as well as 111 new indirect jobs in the area.
Thermaldyne is expected to utilize the state’s Quality Jobs and Industrial Tax Exemption programs. The former provides a cash rebate of up to 6% of a company’s payroll for up to a decade, while the latter offers a full abatement of local property taxes on new capital investments for up to 10 years as well.
Founded in Georgia by entrepreneurs Mike Yawn and Aubrey Singleton, Thermaldyne’s facility will feature a unique configuration and the latest industrial waste remediation technology. As part of the environmental remediation process, heat is used to separate contaminants from the solid waste streams, such as soil, sludge or filter cake from the waste of the petrochemical and oil and gas industries.
Through this process, waste that otherwise would have gone into traditional disposal or storage methods such as landfills can be broken down, resulting in byproducts such as clean oil and biodegradable solids that can be repurposed.
