The Terrebonne Parish Council has voted to fund a $19,000 study to examine the feasibility of converting some or all of the parish’s more than 400 vehicles from gasoline and diesel to compressed natural gas. The study will be done by Baton Rouge-based Professional Engineering Consultants Corp. “It’s the wave of the future,” says Terrebone Parish President Michel Claudet. The (Houma) Courier reports the study will examine which vehicles among the parish’s cars, trucks and buses would be candidates for conversion to compressed natural gas. A letter sent to parish officials before a vote taken Tuesday says the study also will look at the cost of converting the vehicles as well as the possible savings from doing so. Estimated completion time for the study is about 90 days.
