Jim Talbot has sold the Drusilla Lane headquarters building for his namesake real estate company, but he and his roughly 15 agents aren’t going anywhere.
“It’s a great deal for us because we got cash out of the building and we’re still here,” says Talbot, who is celebrating 20 years in business this year. “We don’t have to make a big move and we don’t have to change our address.”
Talbot has sold the roughly 4,000-square-foot office that he had built about five years ago at 2121 Drusilla Lane for $450,000 to Ourso Enterprises LLC, whose registered agent is Cliff Ourso Jr. of Donaldsonville. Talbot struck a lease deal with the new owner—who intends to establish a State Farm office in the building—to lease back about 2,000 square feet of the office space through the end of 2015. Talbot says he’ll see how the next year goes and will make a long-term decision on a building for his company thereafter.
“I built this building in order to fill it up with agents, but it has turned out to be a bigger space than we’ve needed,” he explains of the decision to sell. “I still have three offices that are empty. So, we think this will be a good deal for everyone involved.” —Steve Sanoski
