With the LSU Tigers preparing to host on Saturday what amounts to the football team’s first home game—after the Sept. 5 game against McNeese State was canceled shortly after kickoff due to lightening—Business Report is giving readers an inside look at the team’s new locker room facility.
Shortly after the end of the 2013 football season, LSU shut down its former locker room for the home team in Death Valley and began a hefty renovation of a space that had not been revamped since 1996. Completed last year at a cost of $1.92 million, the Jeff Boss Locker Room is now a vibrant, modern space with elegant wooden lockers and illustrative graphics that honor Tiger greats.
Covering nearly 8,000 square feet and complete with 126 lockers, the locker room features a state-of-the-art sound system, a sophisticated lighting system and a bevy of high-definition TVs. Among other tasks completed during the renovation: moving walls, raising the ceiling, and revamping the coaches’ offices. The architect on the project was Cockfield Jackson Architects, while the contractor was Arkel Group.
“This place is beautiful. We have to thank a great school for providing another super facility for our program,” says LSU coach Les Miles. “They did a wonderful job of highlighting the traditions and some of the great moments in LSU history with the graphics. Our players will enjoy calling this home on Saturdays during the fall.”
