To help employers deal with potential acts of aggression at the workplace, including active shooters, BancorpSouth Insurance Services and Thompson Booth are hosting a symposium on workplace violence later this summer.
“Our goal is to help people recognize potential threats before they happen and assist in preventing them from happening,” says Terry Hoyle, BancorpSouth’s vice president of loss control, in a statement. “While that won’t always be possible, organizations have to be prepared, down to the last individual, to recognize and manage violent situations as quickly and efficiently as they can.”
Nearly 2 million American workers are victims of non-fatal workplace violence every year, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The “Responding to Workplace Violence: Before, During and After” symposium will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Renaissance Hotel, 7000 Bluebonnet Blvd. Experts from the FBI, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be joined by the Office of Safety and Health Administration and AIG partner Abernathy MacGregor as featured speakers.
The symposium is meant offer business owners, human resources professionals, organization leaders and others the opportunity to learn the basic of response. Early tickets are $49 for BXSI clients; $149 for non-clients. After July 15, the cost will be $79 and $179, respectively. Seating is limited, and early registration is encouraged to guarantee a space.
