Sutherland Global says it plans to invest $2.9 million to remodel an existing 40,000-square-foot facility in Alexandria, and that it expects the project to create 600 new jobs and 400 indirect jobs. Construction is to begin this month, the company says, with hiring to begin in April and operations in May. Sutherland specializes in business process outsourcing, primarily in the technology, telecommunications and financial services sectors. Louisiana Economic Development says it began working with the Rochester, N.Y.-based firm in August 2011 to make the investment. LED says Sutherland Global will use the state’s FastStart program to find and train employees. The firm is also expected to utilize Louisiana’s Enterprise Zone tax credits for the project.
