Following a recent promotion, Baton Rouge native Robert Stuart Jr. is now overseeing commercial banking services for Capital One Bank clients nationwide who are worth in excess of $10 million. Stuart, 55, is now splitting his time between Baton Rouge and New York City, but says he and his family will continue living in Baton Rouge. “Thankfully, I really enjoy New York, so it’s not a burden for me to spend so much time there,” Stuart says. “But Baton Rouge is home.” Since 2005, Stuart had overseen middle market commercial banking in Louisiana and Texas for Capital One. He will remain the bank’s Louisiana State President in his new position. Stuart, a Catholic High graduate, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance from LSU and completed the General Manager Program at Harvard Business School. He began his career in 1980 at Fidelity National Bank and later worked for Hibernia Bank when it acquired Fidelity in 1986. He joined Capital One when it acquired Hibernia in 2005. “It’s a lot more work and it’s a big challenge,” Stuart says of his new position, “but it’s also a tremendous opportunity, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Many in Baton Rouge know Stuart through his extensive volunteer work in the community, which includes serving as Woman’s Hospital board chairman and chairman-elect of the Southeast Super Regional Committee, as well as sitting on executive committees of the LSU Foundation, Tiger Athletic Foundation, Committee of 100 for Economic Development, Louisiana Flagship Coalition and the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. Additionally, he somehow finds time to serve on the board of Blueprint Louisiana, Council for a Better Louisiana, Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, Louisiana Economic Development, the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana and the Shaw Center for the Arts. —Steve Sanoski
