The Stockade, one of Baton Rouge’s few bed and breakfasts, has applied for a rezoning classification that, if granted, will enable it to expand. Owner Janice Delerno says she has applied to change the B&B’s zoning from A1 to A3.1 so she can double her capacity from five guest units to 10.
The B&B, which is located at 8860 Highland Road, has been in business for 22 years and is something of a hidden gem, though well-known in local foodie circles for its signature breakfast dishes and original recipes.
Delerno says the decision to expand has been driven by demand from a growing visitors’ market.
“We don’t have enough inventory to meet the demand,” she says. “We have increased international visitors and we have a whole new generation that is interested in the B&B experience.”
The Planning Commission is scheduled to take up the rezoning at its Dec. 21 meeting. If approved, the Metro Council Zoning Committee will have to sign off on it at its Jan. 20 meeting. Delerno says she will be ready to begin construction immediately after securing the zoning change and necessary permits.
