The New Orleans Hornets have attracted attention from four or five buyers who want to keep the pro basketball team in the Crescent City, says NBA Commissioner David Stern. Stern told The Times-Picayune that the Hornets are showing signs of long-term viability in New Orleans. Despite an ongoing lockout that has put the entire 2011-12 NBA season in jeopardy, the Hornets have sold 9,000 season tickets, up from 6,300 last season. The NBA currently has owned the Hornets since a deal to sell the franchise to minority owner Gary Chouest fell through. “We think if all of these things happen, this is a franchise that doesn’t have to be viewed as a weak NBA franchise,” Stern says.
