Quality Iron Fabricators, a Memphis-based steel manufacturer, broke ground today on the first phase of a 40,000-square-foot fabrication facility and office complex in the eastern Livingston Parish village of Albany. The project is expected to come with a $7 million initial capital investment and create as many as 100 new jobs in the first two years. The company purchased a 37-acre site near the Albany exit, just west of Hammond, to serve commercial and industrial markets, and plans to double its capacity over the next 18 months. The facility has the capacity to grow up to 250,000 square feet and will be outfitted with new state-of-the-art computer numerical control fabrication machinery custom-built in Holland, the company says. The facility is expected to be up and running by the middle of the summer. Quality Iron Fabricators is a 38-year-old firm handling major commercial and industrial projects across the country, including hospitals, prisons, bridges, casinos, schools, churches and governmental buildings. Last year the company expanded its downtown Memphis headquarters, and in February it acquired a Houston, Miss., fabrication facility. The Albany location will be its third fabrication site. Mike Montoya of Montoya Design Group in Baton Rouge is providing the site design and engineering, and Aegis Construction in LaPlace is the general contractor.
