(Below are numbers of people who listed some form of the word “Independent” in the “Other” line on their registration form)

Applications

Of the 146,600 applications received since 08/01/2014:

54,000 are New Valid Registrations

76,000 are changes to Name, Party, Address, etc.

8,000 are Duplicate Registrations

5,700 are Invalid Registrations

Remainder are Pre-registrations (16/17yr olds)

(Only 40% of new registrants are white, compared to 64% of total registrations.The rest of New registrants are African American or other….so the assumption would be that Democrats would see a large jump in their numbers…but that hasn’t materialized. Instead, statistics show a large increase in OTHER or NO PARTY registrations…..more than half (52.5%) of new registrations are OTHER.)

While East Baton Rouge Parish has the most registered voters of any parish in the state at 278,002, it has the second highest registered voters in the “Other” category, which includes independents, at 66,125. Jefferson Parish has the most voters in “Other” at 73,041with a total of 261,102 registered voters in the parish.

When asked to speculate a leader, none of them could come up with a response. They couldn’t think of anyone and the authors of the legislation wouldn’t even name themselves.
