The Civil Service Commission has unanimously voted to move ahead with a revamp of the state employees’ job evaluations, without linking it to a new pay-raise schedule. The commission’s 6-0 vote Wednesday clears the way for its staff to publish the new job evaluation rules. A public hearing will follow in December. If it gets final approval, the new plan would take effect by July 1, 2013. The proposal would condense the existing five-level evaluation system into a three-tier grading system in what Civil Service Director Shannon Templet calls an attempt to clearly link an employee’s performance to an agency’s goals. The change would affect the more than 51,400 “classified” state employees under the civil service system.
